Sharks goalie Dell spears Bennett down low, punches get thrown

In case you missed it, the Calgary Flames ignited for eight goals on New Year’s Eve in a 8-5 victory over the visiting San Jose Sharks.

Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk each scored twice and added two assists apiece, while centre Sean Monahan had an incredible five assists. Flames forward Sam Bennett made life tough for Sharks goalie Aaron Dell all night, and actually had a goal reversed due to a goalie interference call under coach’s challenge review. 

It was clear that Bennett got under Dell’s skin, as evidenced by this brutal spear in the third period. Check it out:

After getting gored in the midsection, Bennett comes back at Dell and Dell feeds him a stiff right hand. As Flames analyst Kelly Hrudey put it the two had a “little bit of hatred developing”  and you know what… that’s just good, old fashioned hockey.
