The San Jose Sharks finally recorded their first win of the 2023-24 season, against the Philadelphia Flyers last night, and while this may put them on the right track, general manager Mike Grier didn’t stop there.
On Wednesday, insider Kevin Weekes reported that the Sharks have acquired defenseman Calen Addison from the Minnesota Wild. He believes the return includes a draft pick.
Wild insider Michael Russo of the Athletic confirmed that transaction, adding that Minnesota is getting a fifth-round pick in 2026.
The team later revealed that forward Adam Raska is also included in the return from San Jose.
The 23-year-old has serving on the third pairing for Minnesota, but he’s also seeing time on the first power-play unit, which surely made him an interesting trade target for San Jose.
The young blue liner has five assists in 12 games this season. He appeared in 62 games last season, racking up 26 assists and three goals. He logged 33 assists and five goals over his four-year career with the Wild.
Addison was selected in the second-round by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2018 NHL Draft. He was part of the monster Jason Zucker transaction ahead of the 2020 trade deadline that sent him to Minnesota along with Alex Galchenyuk and a conditional first round pick in 2021, that turned out to be defenseman Carson Lambos.
He now takes his talents to San Jose where he can improve his role on a rebuilding team.
Moments after Weekes and Russo's reports, the Wild confirmed the official transaction, sending defenseman Calen Addison to the Sharks, in return for winger Adam Raska and a fifth-round pick in 2026.
