Sharks raise new banners but make an embarrassing mistake.

A big fail on the part of the San Jose Sharks.

The San Jose Sharks have made a boo boo and now some fans are having a little fun at their expense.

At some point over the course of the summer the San Jose Sharks made the decision to replace the old banners that hung in the rafters of their arena, putting up new replacements in the place of the old ones. Unfortunately something, somewhere, went terribly wrong and it has created a rather embarrassing situation for the Sharks.

The problem was uncovered by Sharks beat writer Curtis Pashelka who at first didn't notice the problem at all, but merely decided to share a few photographs of the new banners on his social media.

After Pashelka made the post however fans were quick to point out that one banner in particular was claiming an accolade that never happened, stealing the accomplishments of the Washington Capitals in the process. To make matters worse the error is in the center banner, making it stick out like a sore thumb.

That error claims that the Sharks were the 2015-2016 President's Trophy winners, when in reality it was the Washington Capitals who claimed that award in that particular National Hockey League season. Here is another look at the banners:

It's a pretty embarrassing mistake on the part of the Sharks and thankfully they seem to agree, with team president Jonathan Becher quickly responding to the error once it was made public. According to Becher, this was merely a printing error and the Sharks have already ordered a replacement banner.

That of course begs the question, if it was merely a printing error that why did the Sharks raise the incorrectly labeled banner up to their rafters?

It's not the end of the world but it is an embarrassing moment for the Sharks, one that I'm sure rival fans won't soon let them forget.
