We have another trade ahead of Friday’s deadline. According to insider Pierre LeBrun, the Carolina Hurricanes have reportedly acquired defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for a third round pick in 2026.
Gostisbehere is under contract through the end of the 2022–23 season at a $4.5 million cap hit. The Coyotes are not retaining any salary in the transaction, per Seravalli, and the Hurricanes are now left with ~$2.6m in space which means they may be done shopping ahead of Friday's deadline.
The Coyotes originally acquired the blue liner from the Philadelphia Flyers back on Jul. 22, 2021, also receiving a second-round pick and a seventh-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft to take on the final two years of Gostisbehere’s contract.
At first, the Canes were rumoured to be linked to Gostisbehere's now-former teammate Jakob Chychrun, but the price might have been too high on him.
Gostisbehere recently returned to action after missing nearly a month while recovering from an upper-body injury he sustained against the Anaheim Ducks back on Jan. 24.
In his second season with the Coyotes, Gostisbehere has 10 goals and 31 points in 52 games.
