Sheldon Keefe sounds off on Toronto media

They're getting extra scrutiny.

It's official - the Toronto Maple Leafs are in a funk right now, especially after their three game California road swing that saw them fail to win any of their games.

Last night's 4-3 overtime loss to the hapless Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center despite having initially enjoyed a 3-1 lead was only the latest setback for Toronto, who are once again left picking up the pieces and wondering what exactly went wrong. Of course, their mistakes are going to be heavily scrutinized, given the fact that they play in one of the biggest hockey markets not only in North America, but in the world.

The Toronto media is notorious for overplaying stories for the fan base, even when things are going well. But especially in situations when things aren't going according to play, the press will act as bloodhounds. And for head coach Sheldon Keefe, who was also directly asked about his job security, it's something he's used to.

"We are used to dealing with noise," he said. "It is not new."

How exactly are the Leafs going to break out of their skid?

"Just keep playing," Keefe said. "There were lots of signs within the game here today. It is such a fine line, right? Any time you get into these overtime games, it can change so much. There is a puck laying on the goal line, and then 15 seconds later, it is in our net. It changes the whole mood and vibe. We can’t get too worked up about the result today. We just have to continue to focus on the process."

"An overtime game can go either way, and if you get a win, it changes everything for you. We just have to continue to focus on the things we did well to give us a chance to win the game while continuing to get better at the things that are the reason we gave up the point."
