A familiar NHL executive keeps surfacing as Toronto searches for answers after a disastrous season
One name continues to surface in the rumour mill as the Toronto Maple Leafs begin their search for a new general manager.
Earlier this week, the Leafs announced they had fired GM Brad Treliving following a disastrous season that will see the team finish near the bottom of the NHL standings. After dominating the Atlantic Division for several years, Toronto will miss the playoffs by a wide margin this spring, making major changes at the top of the organization inevitable.
It will be fascinating to see who ultimately takes over the role, but one name keeps coming up: Doug Armstrong.
Armstrong, who previously announced he would be stepping down as GM of the St. Louis Blues after 16 seasons at the helm, making way for former Blues forward Alex Steen to take over as GM, and more recently from his role with Team Canada, is reportedly open to a new challenge.
However, it remains unclear whether his contractual situation in St. Louis would allow him to accept an offer from another team.
According to Sportsnet insider Nick Kypreos, the situation should become clearer in the coming weeks.
For now, it’s a developing story, and one the Maple Leafs and their fans will be watching very closely.
