On Tuesday, reports surface that the St. Louis Blues were seriously exploring the option of trading goalie Jordan Binnington ahead of Friday’s deadline. NHL Network analyst Brian Lawton has reported that the Blues are “ready to move on” and that Binnington’s 16 team no-trade list is in play, adding that it’s a “foregone conclusion at this stage” that the Blues will trade Binnington.

While the netminder has recently been linked to the Carolina Hurricanes and the Montreal Canadiens, insider Elliotte Friedman brought up a stunning possibility that the Vegas Golden Knights might enter the sweepstakes.

It would not be the first time Vegas stuns everyone with a crazy trade deadline move, now would it?

Friedman, who did specify on The Fan Hockey Show that he has yet to check all trade clauses and what would be allowed to happen or not, wouldn't be surprising if the Golden Knights became a top contender for the goaltender.

“Vegas, I do think could do it, they’ve shown that they’ll do anything that they think is an upgrade and their goaltending has been a real problem this year… Binnington and Hill’s salaries are a near match.”

Binnington is in year five of a six year deal that pays him $6 million annually. There is no doubt that Vegas would need to make room for his pay check by moving key pieces.

If the Golden Knights can make it work, and we all know they are usually huge players on Deadline Day, Binner in Sin City makes a whole lot of sense and it’s exactly in line with the type of big moves that GM Kelly McCrimmon likes to make.
