Should the Red Wings rest some of their veteran players?

With aging players, the Red Wings must be careful.

Ken Holland must be a pretty happy guy this week. Both of his veteran players will be back in time for training camp. Johan Franzen and Pavel Datsyuk should be ready to play when training camp starts in about a month. After an off-season of recovering from injuries, both players will play key roles in Detroit push for the playoff and for the development of the future of the organization.

But those guys are aging, along with Zetterberg, the Wings can't afford themselves to miss these three important pieces for long period of time. That being said, I think that Ken Holland and Jeff Blashill should sit down together and set up a plan to rest these players on pre-determinate days or week.

What I mean by that, is that they should look at the Wings' schedule and target days, games and weeks, where they would rest these players, separately or all three of them, and bring young guys from the AHL to pursue their development. It would be close to what some Baseball organizations are doing with their older players.

The Wings are not the powerhouse they use to be, still, they will be in the picture around March and April. It would be a terrible mistake to "burn" key veterans and not having time when it really matters.

What do you guys think? Should the management team think about resting some veteran players or should they play it with a day-to-day philosophy?
