Sidney Crosby’s night got off to a brutal start on Wednesday against the Flames in Calgary. Less than two minutes into the game, the Pittsburgh Penguins captain was accidentally struck by a teammate’s pass when Bryan Rust sent the puck over a little too high. The puck caught Crosby squarely in the midsection, where it really hurts a man, immediately dropping him in visible pain.

He left the ice to regroup, leaving the Penguins, and fans, holding their breath. Crosby doubled over on the bench, clearly struggling as trainers quickly attended to him.

While Crosby eventually appeared to settle down after several minutes, the uncomfortable moment was impossible to miss and served as a reminder that sometimes the most painful plays come from the most unexpected places.

He was however back moments later when the Penguins got a power-play opportunity.

The video below shows Crosby’s reaction from the bench, a scene Penguins fans hope stays an isolated scare rather than the start of something more concerning.
