There's already no doubt in anyone's mind that, by the time his career has wrapped up, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby will go down as one of the greatest players in the history of the National Hockey League. In spite of the fact that Crosby has already cemented his status as one of the GOATs in the sport of hockey it is still enjoyable to see him continue his climb up the NHL record books, including on Saturday night when Crosby and the Penguins defeated the Buffalo Sabres 3-1.

Crosby had himself a special night as far as NHL records are concerned, including registering the 165th three point game of his NHL career. That puts him one ahead of former NHL forward Jari Kurri (164) and puts him within striking distance of former NHL defenseman Paul Coffey who had 169 three point games during his legendary NHL career.

Crosby would also register the 800th point of his career on home ice for the Penguins, becoming only the second player in the history of the franchise to do so. The only other player to achieve that mark is of course Crosby's own mentor in Penguins legend Mario Lemieux who recorded a whopping total of 939 points on home ice before calling it a career.

Fellow Penguin Evgeni Malkin could eventually join the 800 point club with 656 career points on home ice for the Penguins under his belt, but it seems highly unlikely that anyone is going to catch Crosby or Lemieux anytime soon. Crosby could one day still challenge Lemieux's total given that he seems to have plenty of gas left in the tank as far as his NHL career is concerned.

Crosby currently sits at 802 career points on home ice after last night's game, which means he needs another 137 points on home ice just to tie Lemieux's current record.
