Sidney Crosby records goal #40 with the season on the line.
The captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins was leading the charge early on Saturday afternoon.
The captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins appears to be trying to will his team into the Stanley Cup playoffs.
On Saturday afternoon, Crosby and the Penguins faced off against the Tampa Bay Lightning in another pivotal game for the Penguins with their season effectively on the line on a game to game basis. It wouldn't be long before Crosby, who is having an incredible season at 36 years of age, would make his presence felt.
A turnover at the blue line would lead to a 2 on 1 situation for the Penguins and you would have been hard pressed to pick a worse pair of Penguins for the Lightning to have gifted that opportunity to. The aforementioned Sidney Crosby and Bryan Rust made good on that opportunity thanks to a beautiful effort from Rust that beat both defenseman and goaltender, leaving Crosby with the puck on his stick and a wide open net.
The Penguins have taken an early 1-0 lead over the Lightning, although there remains plenty of hockey to play this afternoon.
