For most of his National Hockey League career Sidney Crosby has represented the pinnacle of what it means to be a hockey player. Both on and off the ice Crosby is universally respected by fans, pundits and his peers and on Friday he provided us with yet another example of why that continues to be the case.

Crosby, who is currently attending the orientation camp for what will be Canada's Men's Olympic hockey team at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, is currently surrounded by some of the very best hockey players on the globe. Despite being in the presence of some truly remarkable athletes, it is the small details about Crosby that continue to make him stand out above the rest.

On Friday, Crosby was getting ready to conduct an interview alongside NHL stars Connor McDavid and Sam Reinhart when he suddenly gave a subtle nudge to the man next to him. That man was McDavid, who at first seemed confused by quickly removed his team hat to show respect those asking the questions.

As if to show that Crosby is setting the example for the next generation of players, McDavid quickly followed suit by sending the same message to Reinhart with a nudge of his own.

It was a subtle moment and one that could have easily been missed, but it is a moment that I believe speaks to the profound impact that Sidney Crosby has had on Canadian hockey and even on Canada as a whole.
