Team Canada’s captain got injured and now medical staff evaluate his lower-body injury..
Per Emily Kaplan, Sidney Crosby underwent imaging in Milan late Wednesday night to assess the severity of the lower-body injury he sustained during Canada’s quarterfinal victory over Czechia.
The superstar captain limped off the ice after a second collision along the boards, appearing to be sandwiched between Radko Gudas and Martin Necas. Crosby’s left leg buckled beneath him, forcing him to take a tentative stride before retreating to the bench. He did not return for the overtime period, though Canada ultimately secured the thrilling win.
Coach Jon Cooper admitted after the game that Crosby’s status remains uncertain. “I don’t even have my poker face on either, because I honestly don’t know,” Cooper said, emphasizing the unknown nature of the injury as Team Canada looks ahead to the semifinals.
The imaging, which could include MRI or other diagnostic scans, will provide clarity on the injury and help determine whether Crosby will be available for Canada’s next matchup. His absence, even temporarily, was felt on the ice, and fans are anxiously awaiting news on the team’s captain and Olympic icon.
For now, Crosby remains under evaluation, while Team Canada prepares for the next challenge in Milan, hoping their captain can recover in time to lead them through the semifinals and toward another shot at Olympic gold.
Per Pierre LeBrun, on Wednesday evening, "Team Canada is expected to have an update on Sidney Crosby on Thursday."
