Since the 2024-25 National Hockey League season officially wrapped up for the Pittsburgh Penguins, there has been a ton of chatter as it pertains to the future of Penguins captain Sidney Crosby.

Crosby, a lifelong Penguin, has seen his franchise become less and less competitive over the years with the Penguins missing the playoffs in 3 consecutive seasons. The lack of success from the Penguins has in turn fueled speculation that Crosby could leave the only team he has ever played for in an effort to chase one or perhaps several more Stanley Cup titles to add to his resume.

To be clear Crosby himself has never expressed any such desires publicly but that hasn't stopped the rumors from flying around the league, including this week when former NHL enforcer Georges Laraque made the following statement:

I’m hearing there’s a very good chance that Crosby will play somewhere else…

The comments from Laraque quickly went viral and caused quite a stir around the NHL draft, but unfortunately it now appears as though Laraque may have had some bad information.

Penguins insider Rob Rossi is now reporting that he has received word directly from Crosby's agent, Pat Brisson, with Brisson categorically rejecting any notion that the rumors have even a grain of truth to them. Brisson, one of the most powerful agents in the NHL if not the most powerful, informed Rossi that any talks of Crosby leaving Pittsburgh were no more than "baseless rumors" that should be discounted entirely.

Of course Crosby's agent would never break such a trade himself, but the fact that he reached out to a well known Penguins reporter to deny these allegations suggests to me that Crosby, at least currently, has no interest in going anywhere other than Pittsburgh.
