The Philadelphia Flyers took on the San Jose Sharks in their season opener, coming out on top by a score of 5-3.
Veteran winger Wayne Simmonds lit the lamp three times, becoming the first Flyer to ever score a hat trick in a season opening game.
Two of the goals were scored on the power play, with the third goal being the game winner. Talk about a statement game.
Simmonds' coach Dave Hakstol, in interview with NHL.com, mentioned that "[he]did a lot of other things, and he did them really well. He was a real good power forward tonight."
The top winger scored 31 goals and 23 assists, totaling 54 points in 2016-17. He may be on track for another 30+ goal year.
