The Red Wings went back to mining for Swedish defensive gold in the 2021 NHL Draft, selecting towering blue liner Simon Edvinsson from Frölunda in the SHL with the 6th overall pick. And for fans of the Red Wings who are hoping to catch a glimpse of him at the NHL level this season, you've gotten your wish.
The Red Wings announced earlier today that they've brought up Edvinsson along with forward Austin Czarnik from their American Hockey League affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins for tomorrow's afternoon game at Little Caesars Arena against the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche; it will mark the first NHL game in the career of Edvinsson.
Edvinsson has appeared in 51 games this season for the Griffins, scoring five goals and 22 assists.
