Simon Wright shared powerful words with his son as he fell in the draft.
This is what dad had to say.
The 2022 National Hockey League Entry Draft has been thoroughly dissected by now with every facet of the draft being analyzed and re-analyzed by pundits as they seek to understand everything that went down during what turned out to be a momentous day in Montreal.
Although every detail of this draft has been put under a microscope, the reality is that nothing and no one has been observed more closely than Seattle Kraken forward Shane Wright. Much has been made about the fact that Wright, the consensus number 1 overall pick for many years leading up to the draft, fell all the way to number 4 where he was selected by the Kraken, and even more has been made of his reaction once he got up on stage.
Over the weekend however we got a closer look at how the moments leading up to the Kraken's selection were handled by Wright and his family, and I must say that everyone in the Wright family conducted themselves exceptionally well considering the difficult moment they found themselves in.
Perhaps no one deserves more credit that Shane's father, Simon Wright, who delivered some powerful words to his son as several teams around the league opted not to select him in the draft.
"It's not when, I know it's easy to say, it's not when you go it's what you do," said Simon Wright.
Even more impressive than the words themselves was the composure that Simon delivered them with. Seeing his son struggle through such a difficult moment must have been an emotional moment for dad, but in spite of that he kept his cool and was a rock for his son when he likely needed him the most.
To his credit, Shane also seemed to handle the difficult moment well and even stated that he would now have a little extra motivation to use during his career in the National Hockey League. The words from Shane were delivered without a hint of arrogance or anger, a good sign for fans of the Seattle Kraken moving forward.
