Sonny Milano is up for grabs.

Capitals take a risk after signing Milano.

The Washington Capitals made a relatively significant move over the weekend when they signed free agent forward Sonny Milano to a 1-year National Hockey League deal, but it sounds like there's a shot they might lose him before even getting a chance to use him.

According to a report from NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, Milano has been placed on waivers by the Capitals and will therefore be available for opposing teams to grab. The Capitals have presumably placed Milano on waivers for the purpose of sending him down to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Hershey Bears, but this has also left him vulnerable to a potential waiver claim.

What makes Milano all the more vulnerable this time around is that he is the only player on waivers today, which means that any teams looking to add a forward will have limited options.

Milano is coming off of a fairly productive season with the Anaheim Ducks one that saw him record 14 goals and add 20 assists for a total of 34 points over 66 games with the Ducks.
