One National Hockey League reporter is expecting a major shift from one NHL team.

In a recent article for the Fourth Period, Patrick Greissing laid out the case for why he expects a huge move from Washington Capitals general manager Brian MacLellan needs to make a major move, and he needs to make it now.

From Greissing:

Capitals GM Brian MacLellan needs to make something happen and do something unorthodox for the Capitals franchise: make a big splash in the middle of the season.

No, I do not mean by the trade deadline. He needs to pull off a big trade in the next three weeks or it likely won't matter at all

He believes that the obvious target is the Colorado Avalanche, a team that is clearly looking to blow up their roster and head towards a rebuild, and he has suggested a massive 5 player deal.

Greissing would see the Washington Capitals send Marcus Johansson, Dmirty Orlov, Daniel Winnik and a first-round pick to the Avalanche with Colorado sending Matt Duchene, Fedor Tyutin, and a second-round pick back the other way. It would truly be a massive trade, one that only has a $1.5 million dollar difference in salaries, and at least financially it's a realistic possibility.

Would you make this deal? Which side do you believe would be the winner?
