Speculation star forward could make a shocking move to a new team.

This certainly has to be classified as a mere rumor, as it is only the speculation of one very talented writer, but it was so intriguing we felt it was worth sharing with our readers.

In a recent article for the Associated Press Stephen Whyno, truly one of the best at his craft, analyzed Canada's play at the World Cup and noted the chemistry between two players in particular, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, and Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand, and wondered openly whether or not Marchand could make the move to Pittsburgh either at the end of the season or perhaps even prior.

That begs the question: How much would Crosby thrive with Marchand on his wing full-time? Marchand is set to be an unrestricted free agent next summer and will command big money, but with the Pittsburgh Penguins coming off the Stanley Cup and their championship window wide open, the versatile left winger presents an intriguing possibility.

For the Penguins the move isn't as insane as it may sounds on the surface, just about everyone expects that goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury will be traded prior to the expansion draft, which would free up significant cap space, and the expiring contracts of players like Chris Kunitz could lead to even more room for the Penguins to work with.

The question here of course is would the Bruins ever consider one of two scenarios: The first being a trade involving Marchand if it becomes clear he's not going to re-sign before the trade deadline, something we believe to be a near impossibility although the situation with Loui Eriksson last season may impact this , and the second would be the gamble Steve Yzerman took this summer in calling his players bluff and letting his contract run out before signing a new deal.

Of course this is pure speculation, but it's certainly a fantasy scenario that will catch the eye of many.
