Spezza denies rumours he wants out of Toronto!

On Thursday the Toronto Maple Leafs waived forward Nic Petan and defenseman Martin Marinicin. However, that’s where they remained until Friday noon’s deadline and will be re-assigned to the Marlies in the American Hockey League.

This means the Maple Leafs will have to place someone else on waivers or pull a trade to make room on their roster. With injured forward Zach Hyman expected to join the team’s lineup this weekend, something has to give.

The Leafs are therefore expected to trade or waive one of Jason Spezza, Nick Shore or Dmytro Timashov as GM Kyle Dubas keeps exploring his options.

However, Spezza wanted to make something very clear on Friday: he does not want out of Toronto.

Despite reports suggesting the veteran forward been upset with his usage on the Leafs’ lineup and prefers a change of scenery, Spezza’s agent, Rick Curran, told The Fourth Period that’s simply “not true.”

While he may be disappointed with his playing time, Spezza is adamant he wants to stay with the Maple Leafs this season.

Something will have to give fast: Hyman, who had ACL surgery in late-April, is expected to return to the lineup next week.
