Sportsnet literally begs Canadian fans to cheer for the Oilers

Shameless!

Trevor Connors

With five of Canada's seven NHL teams qualifying for the Stanley Cup Playoffs this season, there was real optimism that Canada's 33 year Stanley Cup drought would come to an end this season.

And with the Edmonton Oilers making it all the way to the Stanley Cup Final, there's a good chance that the 33 year drought will indeed come to an end. But here's the thing with Canadian hockey fans... just because a team is Canadian doesn't mean that ALL Canadians are cheering them on.

I mean, you're more likely to find a man on the moon than you are to find a Montreal Canadiens fan cheering for the Toronto Maple Leafs (and vice versa) or a Calgary Flames fan cheering for the Oilers. Of course, this isn't an exact rule as there are some patriotic Canadians out there who cheer for "Canada's Team" regardless of their locale but for the most part you won't find fans swapping allegiances so easily.

Sportsnet though... they're out here BEGGING for Canadians to cheer for the Oilers.

I their latest ad on Sportsnet, Rogers is trying to drum up support for the Oilers from fans across the nation.

Check it out:

I've got to admit, "You don't have any other choice," from Evander Kane actually made me laugh.

It might be true, but that doesn't mean that Canadians have to accept it lol
