Mark Stone just lived a fairytale. He captained the Vegas Golden Knights to their first Stanley Cup in franchise history, scoring a hat trick in the series-clinching Game 5. Stone worked hard to make it back on top after undergoing two back surgeries in a span of nine months, however, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman revealed on Friday that the fairytale might be coming to an early end…
Friedman fears that Stone’s back issues will not improve until the end of his career. Per the insider’s reports, Stone remains seriously injured and could be in and out of the lineup for the rest of his career.
Friedman believes Stone will not leave the NHL or retire and will continue to play, though he may be forced to rest often during the season.
Stone is 31 years old and still has four years remaining on his current contract he signed back in 2019, at an AAV of $9.5 million.
It remains to be seen how the Golden Knights will navigate through this constant issue in the future.
