Some say Marchand could stay in Florida, but he might change his mind when he hears from this contender. More below:
It was recently reported that things were looking good for veteran forward Brad Marchand to stay put in Florida with negotiations with the Panthers going well. However, the Stanley Cup champions needs to be careful with their cap space, seeing that there is also Sam Bennett and Aaron Ekblad looking for extension in South Florida.
And so, this prompted Jeff Marek to suggest that the Dallas Stars could look to make Marchand an offer. And being a strong contender for the upcoming season, there is a sense that the Stars could entice Marchand to join them.
“I could see Dallas getting into the mix for Brad Marchand if indeed he hits free agency,” Marek stated on Leafs Morning Take.
Marchand was rumored to be seeking somewhere in the range of $24 million on his next contract with speculation of a three year deal at an average annual value and salary cap hit of $8 million per season, but a four year deal could help bring down the average annual value and cap hit and make it easier to keep him within the fold of the Panthers.
Not sure how the Stars will look at their options ahead of free agency, with rumours linked them to Mitch Marner as well.
The addition of either Marchand or Marner in Dallas makes the Stars quite the contender moving into 2025-26, especially after they fell to the Edmonton Oilers in the Western conference Final last month.
Let’s see where this goes and where Marchand ends up signing.
