With the playoffs approaching, teams cross their fingers in the hope that none of their important player get hurt. This time, the Columbus Blue Jackets drew the short straw.

Defenseman Ryan Murray was injured on March 11th in a crushing defeat against the Buffalo Sabres. He left the game very early in the first and didn't rejoin the bench after. We learn today that his injury was worst than anticipated.

A broken bone takes about 6 weeks to fix, with 2 weeks of rehabilitation following. However, it depends on so many factors that it's really hard to set a solid date of return. For example, Brandan Gallagher came back in the Canadiens' lineup about 5 weeks after breaking fingers blocking a shot. However, the hand is tougher to set than single fingers.

The Jackets are third favorite to win the cup but Murray's absence will be tough to deal with. The team will carry on anyway, but you're never deep enough with your defensive lines.
