Stars coach Pete DeBoer delivers a special message to Mark Scheifele in handshake line
Cameras catch a very raw moment from Game 6 on Saturday night.
Even Dallas Stars fans were pulling for Mark Scheifele on Saturday night.
Well... maybe that's a stretch... but there's no denying the fact that Scheifele was in all our hearts on Saturday after learning about the unexpected passing of his father on Friday. Scheifele was a game-time decision for the Winnipeg Jets' Game 6 against the Dallas Stars and he not only made the lineup, he also ended up scoring the game's opening goal.
Unfortunately for Scheifele and the Jets, that was as close as they came to winning on Saturday evening. After the Stars tied the game and with Scheifele in the penalty box, Stars defenseman Thomas Harley scored the overtime winner to end the Jets' season.
The series ending handshake was absolutely gutting with several members of the Stars taking their time to give Scheifele a hug and some kind words. Personally, I'd love to hear what Stars captain Jamie Benn had to say to Scheifele given that Benn cold cocked him in the face in Game 5.
Thankfully, cameras did catch Stars head coach Pete DeBoer having a special moment with Scheifele.

Damn, I love this sport.
Players can absolutely kill each other for an entire series, then they shake hands and share their heartfelt feelings when it's all said and done. Show me another sport that has this level of respect amongst heated competitors.
RIP Brad Scheifele. Gone, but never forgotten.
