Stars sign Matt Duchene to a curious new contract extension

That kind of term at 35 years old? Yikes... this means Granlund is probably gone, right?

This just in, the Dallas Stars have signed 35 year old forward Matt Duchene to a four year contract extension worth $4.5 million per season.

Interestingly enough, Duchene is still receiving checks from his buyout from the Nashville Predators. Between his new contract with the Stars and his buy-out payment from the Preds he'll make over $11 million next season.

Duchene put up 30 goals and 82 points in 82 games with the Stars this past season, his second full season with the Stars. The Predators bought him out of a massive seven year, $56 million deal in 2023 following a 22 goal, 56 point campaign. He's fit in perfectly with the Stars though and has rejuvenated his stellar career in his mid-thirties.

Duchene has bounced around the NHL and has been pretty productive at every stop in his career. This new deal is likely the last one in his career and signals that the Stars aren't looking to take any steps back after a trip to the Western Conference Final this season.
