A goalie trade is always exciting, and at this year’s March 3rd deadline, it could be exactly what a team like the Edmonton Oilers need. They do not look like a playoff team at the moment. The Oilers blew a 2-0 lead to the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday as Jack Campbell, who is paid 5M AAV, stopped both of the shots he faced after relieving starter Stuart Skinner who gave up five goals.

And so when David Pagnotta revealed how the Ottawa Senators could dangle goalie Cam Talbot on the trade market ahead of the deadline, we bet the fanbase in Edmonton got excited.

Starting goalie could be dangled on the trade market at the deadline!

Talbot is believed to be interested in staying in Ottawa if the Senators want to keep him, but it would also be understandable if GM Pierre Dorion chose to shop him on the market seeing that the veteran netminder is set to become an unrestricted free agency this summer. Since being traded to Ottawa ahead of the 2022-23 season, Talbot has emerged as the club’s No. 1 goalie and could tempt some contenders how there who need a veteran presence in between the pipes.

Quite easily, the Oilers come to mind. The Los Angeles Kings could also come calling seeing that there is a clear and obvious hole is in net. Jonathan Quick has been struggling, Cal Petersen was sent to the minors to find his game, and they’re riding journeyman Pheonix Copley now, who has no NHL playoff experience.

Dorion might be tempted to shop and move Talbot, who could accept this transaction much better than when he was pushed out of Minnesota when the Wild extended Marc-André Fleury in net.

Stay tuned.
