Stephen Halliday carried off the ice after a hit goes horribly wrong.
What was a huge win for the Ottawa Senators on Sunday night quickly turned into a disaster after a hit went horribly wrong while the game was already well out of reach.
The Senators were up 7-0 over the Vegas Golden Knights, thoroughly dominating the Golden Knights throughout the entire game but, with roughly 12 minutes left to go in the third, Senators forward Stephen Halliday would find himself on the receiving end of a devastating hit.
That hit would come courtesy of Golden Knights forward Tomas Hertl and the hit in and of itself likely would not have led to any injuries for Halliday. However as Halliday absorbed the hit, his body went over the edge of the bench before he would slam face first into the stanchion at the edge of the protective glass.
Halliday slammed into the stanchion and collapsed down to the ice where you could tell he was trying to get back to his feet, with his body refusing to respond to his commands. Halliday was completely out of it, seemingly knocked out by the blow from the stanchion and completely unable to regain his feet.
Unfortunately Halliday was unable to leave the ice under his own power and was eventually carried off the ice by his teammates before heading back into the Senators locker room.
