By now, you've heard that the Detroit Red Wings have acquired two-time 40 goal scoring forward Alex DeBrincat, bringing a native son home. The trade was completed on Sunday night with the Ottawa Senators as Dominik Kubalik, Donovan Sebrango, and a conditional 1st round pick and a 4th round pick in 2024 moved to the Canadian capital city.

That officially puts to rest any notion that the Red Wings could look to poach Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander, who had seen his name emerge as a potential candidate for Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman to snag. However, the Swedish forward still has made no progress on a new deal with the Leafs and new GM Brad Treliving, and is still being looked at as a prime trade candidate in order to shed some salary from the Leafs payroll.

The alleged contract demand from Nylander's camp is a reported AAV of $10 million a season, something that the Leafs apparently are not willing to give. Meanwhile, Yzerman's acquisition of DeBrincat included a new four year extension at $7,485,000 a season, which is below his reported asking price of a deal worth north of $8 million per season.

Enter Steve Dangle, the popular media personality who is a massive Maple Leafs fan.

Funny stuff from Steve Dangle! The fact is that Nylander's agent probably is sweating big time right now after Yzerman was able to talk DeBrincat's agent well below what his reported asking price was!
