It's been a horrible start to the year for the Flyers, and last night was just another nail in the coffin of the Flyers hopes to be relevant. The San Jose Sharks are also a struggling club, but the Sharks Matt Nieto managed to score with just seconds left in the the third period to deny the Flyers even one point. Some of the Flyers tried to look at the positives, notably Claude Giroux spoke to CSN Philly about the loss:
"We played one of our best games in a while, we played as a team. We had chemistry out there. Obviously, the results won’t show how well we played. … If you can build off a game we lost, we can keep our heads high.”
It's the kind of hockey answer you would expect, politically correct, nothing for the media to really sink their teeth into. However not everyone on the Flyers wanted to give a hockey answer and it was good to see some players showing that they are as frustrated as the fan base, notably Flyers goalie Steve Mason:
"We’re all tired of moral victories, the team played a good game but you don’t win it. It’s not good enough. Enough of the moral victories. We got to go out and start winning hockey games.Everybody is frustrated and ticked off, but it’s a matter of going out and winning now.”
The Flyers have a tough match up tonight as they look to end their current slump against the Anaheim Ducks.
