The Lightning are facing another Steven Stamkos long-term injury. If this goes as expected, Stammer could be out of the lineup until the playoffs come and this is... Great!
According to TSN Pierre Lebrun, the Lightning could make the best of out of this unlucky situation. Lebrun suggested that Stamkos' season-long injury could free up to 8 Millions in salary for Tampa, leaving GM Steve Yzerman with unexpected salary cap space. Again, according to Lebrun, Yzerman would be able to grab one of the most coveted 2017 Unrestristed Free Agent. Players like Kevin Shattenkirk or Martin Hanzal are expected to be moved before the end of the season and Tampa Bay might be where they end up.
Adding someone like Shattenkirk to a Tampa stacked up team would translate into a very, very serious Stanley Cup contender.
