It is official, the Edmonton Oilers have moved on from goalie Stuart Skinner.

The Oilers have traded Skinner to the Pittsburgh Penguins in return for their netminder Tristan Jarry, per insider Frank Seravalli.

He also believes another player is being sent to the Pens in the deal.

Moments later, it was insider Chris Johnston who confirmed the report, adding that Skinner was being sent out to Pittsburgh along with " Brett Kulak and a 2nd-round pick to Pittsburgh in this Tristan Jarry trade." It is also believed that Sam Poulin is heading out to Edmonton with Jarry.

No salary retention in this major transaction.

FULL TRADE DETAILS:

TO EDMONTON: - Tristan Jarry (G)
- Sam Poulin (RW)

TO PITTSBURGH: - Stuart Skinner (G)
- Brett Kulak (D)
- 2029 2nd Round Pick

A change of scenery might be what’s necessary for Skinner, especially after months of harsh critics and tough performances. He has an 11-8-4 record this season with a .891 save percentage and a 2.83 goals-against average. He has helped the Oilers on their way to two consecutive trips to the Stanley Cup Final, but the team ultimately fell short against the Florida Panthers in each of the past two years.

Skinner is a pending unrestricted free agent, carrying a cap hit of $2.6 million on his expiring deal.

As for Kulak, who is also included in the multi-piece deal, he has put up two assists in 31 games this season. He is also a pending UFA, carrying a cap hit of $2.75 million this season.

Jarry has been the subject of trade rumors for much of this season, and now the trigger has been pulled despite his off night on Thursday against the visiting Montreal Canadiens.

In 14 games so far this season with the Penguins, Jarry has posted a 9-2-1 record, a .909 save percentage, and a 2.66 goals-against average. With the team’s red hot start to the 2025-26 season, Jarry has been a significant reason why Pittsburgh remains in playoff contention for the first time in three years.

He’s currently playing in the third season of a five-year, $26.88 million contract and carries a cap hit of $5.38 million.

Poulin, who now moves to Edmonton, has recorded 64 goals and 71 assists in 207 games over the past five seasons with Pittsburgh’s AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre Scranton. The 24-year-old has also dressed in 15 games for the Penguins in that time including a pair of games in November. The left-shot forward was Pittsburgh's first-round selection (21st overall) in 2019.

The Oilers also pulled off a trade with the Nashville Predators, at the same time, sending a 2027 3rd round draft pick for defenseman Spencer Stastney. Edmonton believes Stastney, acquired from Nashville, can be the long-term replacement for Kulak.
