On Tuesday, five players were placed on the waivers, including goalie Alexandar Georgiev, who was put on the wire by the Buffalo Sabres, and netminder Ville Husso, who was placed on there by the Anaheim Ducks.

On Wednesday to everyone’s surprise, all players cleared. Since the goalie market has been so scarce, many insiders expected one or even both netminders to get claimed.

But no claims were made on Wednesday and all players, including Georgiev and Husso will be sent down to their respective farm clubs.

Last month, Georgiev signed a one-year deal with the Sabres as the team was dealing with fellow netminder Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen’s health. Buffalo could also count on Alex Lyon, but the overall feeling was that Georgiev would make the opening night roster after Luukkonen was hurt during a preseason game last week, placing him on the injured list.

But then, the Sabres claimed goaltender Colton Ellis off waivers, with head coach Lindy Ruff admitting that the team had been keeping an eye on the former St. Louis Blues netminder for some time.

The Sabres went on to place Georgiev on the wire, now losing him to X.

Back in December, Georgiev was traded by the Avalanche to the San Jose Sharks as part of the deal that sent Mackenzie Blackwood to Colorado.

It was a struggling season for the goalie, who posted a record of 15-26-4, with a 3.71 goals-against average and .875 save percentage in 49 outing with the Avs and Sharks. They were, by far, the worst numbers of his eight-year NHL career.

In 303 NHL games, Georgiev has a record of 151-108-26, with a 2.99 GAA, a .903 SV% and 15 shutouts. He has a postseason record of 9-10, with a 2.72 GAA and a .906 SV%.

As for Husso, he’s been with the Ducks since he was traded to Anaheim by the Detroit Red Wings for future considerations last February. He got a 1-1-1 record with a 2.99 goals-against average and a .925 save percentage in his four games with the team. In total, he appeared in just 13 games during the 2024-25 campaign, going 2-7-3 with a 3.47 GAA and a .890 SV%. He spent most of the season with the Grand Rapids Griffins, the Red Wings’ American Hockey League affiliate.

While he signed a two-year deal with the Ducks th summer, he was outplayed by their two other goalies Lukáš Dostál and Petr Mrázek and is no longer in the running to make the opening night roster.

In 145 NHL appearances, Husso has a record of 71-46-19, with a 3.05 GAA, a .901 SV% and seven shutouts.

THE WIRE ON WEDNESDAY

Today, only one player landed on waivers. After the St. Louis Blues agreed to terms with goaltender Georgi Romanov on a one-year, two-way contract, they had to place him on the wire.

He will report to the Blues’ AHL affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds.

The 25-year-old goaltender spent the majority of last season with the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda, posting an 11-6-3 record along with a 3.10 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage in 21 regular-season appearances. He has also tallied a 3.53 goals-against average and a .888 save percentage in 10 career NHL regular-season games with the San Jose Sharks.
