The Winnipeg Jets appear to be entering a retooling phase following their 2023 Stanley Cup postseason loss to the eventual Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights, and chatter has been loud all summer long that both forward Mark Scheifele and goalie Connor Hellebuyck could be on the move. However when it comes to the latter, the latest update isn’t encouraging.

According to Michael Russo of The Athletic, two teams that were previously interested in acquiring the netminder are stepping away from a potential transaction due to the high asking price.

“Right now, it doesn’t look like the Devils and Sabres are willing to pay the incredible assets the Jets are commanding for Hellebuyck.”

While the Jets may not feel the pressure to move Hellebuyck at the moment, ahead of the 2023-24 season, the goalie has already told the them that he has no interest in being part of a rebuilding team.

We however get why the Jets want the right return for the Vezina-caliber starter, and so, the decisions around Hellebuyck, and teammate Scheifele, will definitely be telling for what comes next in Winnipeg.

Hellebuyck has only played for the Jets in his NHL career, and has racked up a record of 238-154-37 with a 2.66 goals against average and .916 save percentage along with 32 shutouts.

The Jets will be patient… but until when?
