P.K. Subban is entering his 11th season in the National Hockey League - his first as a member of the New Jersey Devils - and so, he isn’t about to change his eccentric personality.

On Monday night, first overall pick Jack Hughes put on a show in one of the two Devils preseason contests, scoring a goal and the overtime winner in the 4-3 victory over the Boston Bruins.

Hughes scored the first goal of the Devils’ preseason on the power play to tie the game with the Bruins. When Boston tied the game with 49 seconds left in regulation forcing overtime, Hughes managed to score the overtime winner on a beautiful give and go with Nikita Gusev for the win. It was an incredible Devils preseason debut for Hughes who has a lot of hype to live up to.

However, after the contest, Subban decided he wanted in on the hype surrounding Hughes.

“I take credit for his OT winner b/c prior to the OT, I said to him ‘I heard the rumor that you get 1 goal & then shut it down, so are you full or do you want more?’ He told me, ‘that’s not me’. He scored the winner, so he’s already listening & learning.”

Sure, we can tell that Subban likes to joke around with his teammates and is probably just trying to get Hughes pumped, however, he should have left the kid get his moment. But Subban is Subban, you can't change the funny guy, who will find any way possible to motivate his teammate.

Hughes is expected to be one heck of a player, and we know Subban won’t have much to do with his success in the near future.
