Food and overall health concern pro hockey player more and more. Gone are the days when players smoked cigarettes between shifts or had liquor between periods to ''keep them warm''.

Nowadays, players weigh their food, crunch numbers about calories and nutriments and do workout almost every day. It's a big part of why the NHL is so competitive in our time; nothing is left to chance.

However,an interesting story was revealed about Montreal Canadiens' Carey Price. The superstar goalie had some tough stretch in his first few years with the Habs and one of the reason might be his weight and overall conditioning!

He revealed that he was as heavy as 260lbs in his first few years, a very cumbersome frame to move on the ice for a 6'3'' guy. Forwards and defenseman can let themselves weigh a bit more without changing their performance, trading speed for physical play in many cases. However, goalies need to be quick and agile at all time, and being 260lbs is not the best recipe.

Down the line, Price lost a lot of weight naturally, with better food and training. He has now a walking weight of about 210lbs, which is much more reasonnable. It explains in part how he became one of the best goalie in the league!
