Hours into the first day of free agency across the NHL, the Boston Bruins have traded goaltender Joonas Korpisalo to the New York Rangers in exchange for forward Kalle Vaisanen and a 2028 fourth-round pick.

In 31 games this past season, Korpisalo went 14-9-6 with an .894 save percentage and 3.15 goals-against average. He has appeared in 334 career NHL games split between the Columbus Blue Jackets, Los Angeles Kings, Ottawa Senators and Bruins.

He is heading into the fourth season of a five-year, $20 million contract with an AAV of $4 million he signed with the Sens on July 1, 2023, and starts a new chapter in NYC.

As for Vaisanen, who is just 23 years old, he skated in 51 games last season with the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, scoring three goals with one assist. He was a fourth-round pick (106th overall) by New York in 2021.
