In case you missed it this past weekend, Carolina Hurricanes forward Andrei Svechnikov suffered a gruesome looking injury when his right leg folded under itself while fighting for position with Boston Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara in front of the Bruins goal.

Here's the play in question:

Ouch. Ouch! OUCH!

That looks... pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty gruesome.

As expected the Hurricanes announced that Svechnikov will be out of the lineup indefinitely while the team's medical staff investigate the nature and severity of the injury. Well... as it turns out Svechnikov's injury isn't as bad as first feared. Hurricanes insider Luke DeCock reports that the Russian sniper might be able to return to the team's lineup should they progress onto the Eastern Conference Final or Stanley Cup Final.

In fact, Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour himself confirmed that Svechnikov's injury isn't as bad as first feared.
