Jeremy Swayman speaks out after a terrible mistake at the Olympics.
The United States of America was victimized by one of the worst goals you're ever going to see at an Olympic event but thankfully it is likely one that will be quickly forgotten thanks to the fact that, in the end, they managed to secure the victory.
During a clash between Team USA and Denmark at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, Boston Bruins star goaltender Jeremy Swayman gave up a truly horrible goal that came from center ice. Denmark's Nicholas B. Jensen of the Fischtown Pinguins of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga ripped a shot from the middle of the ice, likely thinking it would be a harmless dump in, only to be left stunned when he realized that it had made its way past Swayman and into the American net.
Despite the fact that his team would rally back from that moment to win by a score of 6-3, Swayman was asked about the blunder following the game's conclusion. Much to his credit, Swayman flat out admitted that he had lost the puck in all the clutter in and around the rink.
"No [I didn’t see it], it was a flash screen," said Swayman when asked about the goal. "It was just the perfect height, right between that stands and board level. I truly lost it… No matter how they go in, you have to step up and stop the next one."
On the broadcast it was suggested that Swayman may have lost sight of the puck due to the color of the boards, but again to his credit he refused to make any excuses for his mistake.
"I’m colorblind, so it doesn’t matter to me," admitted Swayman taking full ownership of the error.
It could have gone down as a horrible Olympic moment for Swayman and the USA, but thankfully it now seems likely that it will be quickly forgotten.
