Great news for Calgary’s T.J Brodie as he continues his recovery after fainting and convulsing at a Flames’ practice last week. The team has announced that the 29-year-old defenseman will join them on their current road trip. While he won’t play against the Philadelphia Flyers tomorrow, he will start taking part in full practices with the team again, which is a huge step so soon after his scary incident.

Brodie was removed from the ice at the Saddledome on a stretcher on November 14th after he fell and began to seize. He was taken to hospital by ambulance where he underwent a large amount of testing as doctors tried to determine exactly what went wrong and whether it had anything to do with a brain condition.

The Flames’ medical team has determined that the incident was not due to “something significant and inside the brain”, but rather a fainting episode that may have been caused by something as simple as dehydration. The team was adamant that no stone would be left unturned when it came to testing in an effort to ensure that Brodie is ok and that he would not return to playing any sooner than he should. Brodie has skated since the incident, but it was by himself. While there is still no exact timeline for his return, the fact that he’ll be taking part in practice means he is very close.

Calgary GM Brad Treliving had nothing but praise for the medical staff after Brodie’s collapse, saying they couldn’t have done a better job.

“I can't thank the work of the medical team enough. You saw the best of the business in action, live and in colour. Kent Kobelka, Mike Gudmundson, Kevin Wagner, James Borelli, Ian (Auld) just went to work so thank you for them,” Treliving said in a news conference the day after.
