T.J. Oshie has left the Capitals
Feels like a significant setback and even a mystery issue...

On Friday morning ahead of the Washington Capitals’ matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes, it was quickly noticed that veteran forward T.J. Oshie was missing from practice. When media, including team insider Tom Gulitti, finally got a chance to ask head coach Spencer Carbery what was going on with Oshie, he revealed that his forward has left the team and headed back to Minnesota.
“I believe he’s not in the facility. I think he may have gone back to Minnesota to get some treatment done.”
The words used by Carbery, notably I believe and I think, make it feel like there might be something more significant going on with Oshie. He hasn’t played since Dec. 16 against the Predators at Nashville with what was first called a lower-body injury. However now, the injury is listed as upper body in nature…
Not sure what this is all about.
In his last game in mid-December, Oshie recorded a power-play goal and three shots on goal in 18:51 of ice time. He finished the game without any clear sign of injury and since, his absence has been sort of a mystery for fans and pundits. In just 21 contests played this season with Washington, Oshie has only managed to record two goals and two assists for four points.
So far this season, Oshie has missed a total of 15 games and he is now listed as out day-to-day and on injured reserve. There could be another update on his status if even he is indeed out in Minnesota after leaving the Capitals, and could need longer time for treatment and recovery.
This will be one story to keep an eye on in the coming days in Washington…
