Talented forward may be on the trading block after strong rookie season.

This is certainly a very attractive player for several teams.

The New York Rangers have a problem many teams would like to have right about now, they are just too good on offense, and as a result one of their talented forwards has been forced to sit on the sidelines.

Despite a strong rookie season from former second round draft pick Oscar Lindberg, he has appeared in just four games this season, and that largely due to injuries in the Rangers line up, and now many are wondering if much like defenseman Dylan McIlrath a trade is the best option for both the Rangers and Lindberg moving forward.

From Today's Slap Shot:

As of now, the truths are that Lindberg is not receiving enough playing time, he likely has more value to other teams than the Rangers, and New York has the depth to afford moving him to another team. Rarely is it wise to trade a cheap, 25-year old bottom-six stud, but for the New York Rangers the move makes the most sense.

The problem here is that Lindberg would require waivers to be sent back down to the American Hockey League, and while McIlrarth did manage to get through waivers this season prior to being traded, taking such a risk with Lindberg would be a massive gamble at best. Further complicating matters is impending return of injured Ranger Josh Jooris, a return that would force the Rangers to waive one of the two men, again exposing them to the risk of losing either player for nothing.

The Rangers have considerable depth at forward in the American Hockey League as well, with several players waiting to be promoted to the NHL roster, so despite his age and his talent it really does seem like Lindberg may soon be playing on a different roster.
