Jordan Binnington and Logan Thompson

Team Canada has reportedly chosen their starting goaltender

The right choice?

According to a report from NHL.com goaltending insider Kevin Woodley, Team Canada is expected to turn to St. Louis Blues netminder Jordan Binnington as their starter, at least for Thursday's game against Czechia.

Binnington gets the start over Los Angeles Kings goaltender Darcy Kuemper and Washington Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson, despite some truly awful NHL statistics this season.

Binnington has just eight wins in 32 games with the Blues and an NHL career-worst .864 save percentage this season. Meanwhile, Kuemper and Thompson have been amongst the NHL's leaders this season.

Of course, Binnington has proven himself to be a clutch goaltender when put under pressure. He rose out of nowhere to lead the Blues to a Stanley Cup championship in 2019 and he, of course, starred for Canada in last year's 4 Nations victory.

I mean... who can forget these saves with the game on the line?

With these front of mind, it's easy to see why Canada has chosen to give 'Binner' the start. But don't be surprised if he's kept on a short leash and the team turns to Kuemper or Thompson should Binnington falter.

Stay tuned.
