The announcement comes just hours before a familiar World Junior matchup.
Team Canada has officially added a new element to its 2026 World Junior Championship presentation, announcing a fresh goal celebration ahead of tonight’s preliminary-round game against Czechia.
The change gives Canada a distinctly Canadian sound after goals. The Toronto Blue Jays’ home run horn will now be used, followed by “Courage” by The Tragically Hip, creating a two-part celebration designed to energize the bench and the crowd. The horn hits first, with the song following immediately after.
The horn was loaned by the Blue Jays for the duration of the event.
“From Canada’s team to Team Canada,” Hockey Canada posted. “Our friends at the Blue Jays have loaned us their home run horn for the world juniors.”
The horn itself carries recent national recognition. It became widely known beyond baseball circles during Toronto’s most recent playoff run, when it echoed through Rogers Centre and across national broadcasts as the Blue Jays pushed all the way to Game 7 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Now, that same sound is crossing over to the international hockey stage.
Canada faces Czechia tonight, an opponent that has ended its World Junior run in the quarterfinal round in back-to-back tournaments. While the change doesn’t affect lineups or systems, it does set a tone: loud, familiar, and unmistakably Canadian.
If Canada finds the back of the net tonight, fans won’t miss it.
The goal horn that shook a baseball stadium is ready for a hockey moment.
