It appears the Montreal Canadiens are not willing to mortgage their future in hopes of a quick fix to their problems.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman said during Hockey Night in Canada's "Headlines" segment on Saturday night that despite the teams woeful slump as of late, the Habs remain unwilling to part with young forward Alex Galchenyuk.

According to Friedman, "a couple of teams" contacted the Canadiens to see if Galchenyuk was on the market, but were told he wasn't available.

The budding young gun 10 goals and 27 points in 47 games, and at 21-years of age, Galchenyuk represents the future for a Canadiens' squad in desperate need of an offensive spark.

However, it won't be easy to find a suitable scorer without the team's young assets on the trade market.
