You don't often here a trade rumor sparked by the president of a National Hockey League organization but that is exactly the case here.

In a recent article Bruins insider Joe Haggerty of CSNNE touched on the fact that there was still a great deal of disappointment within the Bruins organization and fan base that the team had been unable to land a top four defenseman, citing specifically both Kevin Shattenkirk of the St. Louis Blues as well as Jacob Trouba of the Winnipeg Jets, two names that have been rumored very heavily this summer.

However it was the comments from team president Cam Neely that truly stood out in that article, indicating that the Bruins still feel they have the cap space needed to make a play for a top four defenseman, and in fact revealing that the tream's general manager, Don Sweeney was hard at work on just that.

“I know basically from April to now everybody is talking about our back end, and not being able to land a top-four defenseman. We still have an opportunity as far as cap space goes if something shakes free, and I know Don [Sweeney] has been working hard trying to do something."

The question is of course what the Bruins would have to give up in order to make either of those moves a reality, and while Sweeney didn't name any names, Haggerty was more than willing to speculate on who could be on the move.

From Haggs:

Whether it’s David Krejci or Ryan Spooner, the Bruins also have a surplus of centers now that would seem to indicate potential trade chips in place if Don Sweeney wanted to act quickly on a good, old-fashioned hockey swap.

It's late in the summer, but it doesn't sound like Boston is done making moves just yet.
