There have been recent reports in Montreal that Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes has been looking to draft prior to their current fifth overall selection from the lottery. Alexandre Gascon of Radio-Canada reportedly earlier today that there was some negotiating happening between the Habs and San Jose Sharks, who hold the fourth overall pick.

However, Hughes isn’t stopping there. According to Arpon Basu of The Athletic, Hughes is being quite aggressive ahead of the NHL Draft and has reported contacted the Anaheim Ducks in attempts to acquire the second overall pick in order to bring Adam Fantilli to Montreal.

“We can also confirm a report from Radio-Canada colleague Alexandre Gascon on Wednesday morning that the Canadiens are trying everything they can to move up in the draft. The report cites their efforts to swap picks with the San Jose Sharks at No. 4, but the Canadiens have also contacted the Anaheim Ducks to see what it would take to move up to No. 2.

The cost would likely be astronomical to get from No. 5 to No. 2, but when a player like Adam Fantilli is available, doing your due diligence to determine that cost is a necessity. The chances of a trade up materializing remain very slim, but the Canadiens are definitely trying.”

This would be a monster move on the draft floor if it happens. here is no doubt that Fantilli will be a franchise-changer, just like his friend and protected first overall pick Connor Bedard for the Chicago Blackhawks.

The question for Fantilli however is where will he ended playing to become that franchise-changer?!
