Team Sweden announces replacements for injured players Leo Carlsson and Jonas Brodin

Honestly... kind of a surprising choice on defense.

Last week Team Sweden officials confirmed that forward Leo Carlsson and defenseman Jonas Brodin are both unlikely to play for the country at the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics.

"We'll give it a few more days to see if anything extraordinary happens, but currently we are operating under the assumption they won't be playing in the Olympics," head coach Sam Hallam said.

"Both of them are amazing players and amazing people and it looks like they won't get a chance to play," Hallam said. "I feel their pain. We'll see what our next steps are with regards to our team and our roster. We remain confident in the depth available to us."

Today, the team confirmed that both players will indeed be out for the upcoming games and that Carlsson has been replaced by Minnesota Wild forward Marcus Johansson, while Brodin has been replaced by Boston Bruins defenseman Hampus Lindholm

Johansson was always kind of pegged as a replacement player, as it was surprising that he wasn't included on the team's original roster. Sources indicate that Calgary Flames forward Mikael Backlund was also in consideration for the position.

On the back end, I have to admit that H. Lindholm catches me a bit by surprise. I figured the team would turn to either Edmonton Oilers defenseman Mattias Ekholm or St. Louis Blues defenseman Philip Broberg.
