Team USA shows off one of the meanest lines in the tournament on Sunday.
Team USA has just unveiled what will be their top two lines, as well as their defensive pairings, for the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milan, Italy, and it has me incredibly excited for the quality of hockey we are about to witness when the stars of the National Hockey League return to the Olympic stage for the first time in over a decade.
On Sunday Team USA hit the ice and showed off a freakishly strong looking lineup, with their entire roster looking more like a bonafide All-Star team than an international roster.
The top line featured Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews at the center position with Tampa Bay Lightning star forward Jake Guentzel and Minnesota Wild star forward Matt Boldy flanking him on either side. The second line might be the meanest line in this tournament with Vegas Golden Knights star forward Jack Eichel centering the modern day Bash Brothers, Florida Panthers star forward Matthew Tkachuk and Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk.
The defensive pairings were just as absurd with Minnesota Wild star defenseman Quinn Hughes flanked by Boston Bruins star defenseman Charlie McAvoy on the team's top pairing. Team USA's second defensive pairing featured Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin and another member of the Wild in Brock Faber. Columbus Blue Jackets forward Zach Werenski, considered by many to be among the contenders for the Norris Trophy this season, is unbelievably on the team's third pair alongside Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Noah Hanifin.
The bottom six did not seem to be solidified just yet but that will likely change in the coming days as we get closer to the start of the tournament.
Let me know what you think of Team USA's roster so far in the comments.
